The full form of OS is Operating System. It is system software that provide an interface between user and machine i.e. computer, mobile or any device which has electronic components. OS is a mediator which helps the user to communicate with the hardware. The operating system (OS) is the most important type of system software in a computer system. Without an operating system, a user cannot run an application program on their computer, smartphone unless the application program is self-booting. There is more the 1200 operating system. But mainly categorized into two categories:
Familiar desktop/PC operating systems include MS Windows, Apple macOS, Google Chrome OS, and Linux. The main operating systems for smartphones are Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android. Other devices, such as the Wi-Fi router, can run “embedded operating systems.” These are specialized operating systems with fewer features than a typical operating system, designed specifically for a single task, such as running a Wi-Fi router, providing GPS navigation, or operating an ATM. An OS provides three essential features: it offers a user interface through a CLI or GUI; launches and manages the execution of applications; and identifies and exposes the system hardware resources for these applications, generally through a standardized API.
