What is Interdisciplinary Center mean?
Reichman University (Hebrew: אוניברסיטת רייכמן) is a private research university in Herzliya, in the Tel Aviv District of Israel. Founded in 1994 by Uriel Reichman as a private college under the name The Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya (המרכז הבינתחומי הרצליה), it was envisioned and inspired by the model of the Ivy League. It was recognized by the Council for Higher Education in Israel as a university in August 2021. It is Israel's first and only private university (whereas the rest of Israel's universities are all public).
The university is located in the city of Herzliya, in the Tel Aviv District, and is classified as an independent university. It grants undergraduate degrees, post-graduate degrees, and PhD degrees. It is a non-profit and receives no direct Israeli government funding.
Reichman University has 8,000 students enrolled for undergraduate and graduate degrees, including 2,000 international students from 86 countries (about 36% of whom are from Europe and 31% of whom are from North America).
In 2014, Reichman University law graduates achieved the highest passing rate at the national bar examination of all Israeli academic institutions. Moreover, Reichman University ranked first of 66 Israeli academic institutions in terms of student satisfaction for four consecutive years. In addition, Reichman University has been the only academic institution in the world that has won the international Jean Pictet International Humanitarian Law competition, organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross, in consecutive years, winning it twice, in 2010 and 2011.
The faculty includes professors who are involved with and hold professorships at various other universities. Reichman University cooperates with universities in the United States such as the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, University of California, Berkeley, Washington University in St. Louis, Syracuse University and Harvard University.
Reichman University was ranked first in a survey that examined the treatment in Israeli academic institutions towards students who serve in the IDF. It was the first academic institution to recognize active reserve service as equivalent to academic credits. In addition, Reichman University students who serve in the reserve forces enjoy significant assistance during their studies. Reichman University offers a program in political science, with specialization in diplomacy and counter-terrorism, and hosts the Institute for Counter-Terrorism.
