The airport has a capacity of two million passengers per year, but with the addition of the new passenger terminal built in 2021, the capacity has been increased to 6 million. The airport serves as a hub for Proflight Zambia, a regional carrier in Zambia, also, starting 30 September 2021 Zambia Airways. The national carrier will operate flights from Lusaka to Harare and Johannesburg using a 737-800 and flights to Livingstone, Ndola, and Solwezi utilizing a couple of Dash 8-400s.
