Coffee Day serves 1.8 billion cups of coffee annually in six countries. It is the largest producer of arabica beans in Asia, which exports to various countries including the US, Europe and Japan.

V.G. Siddharth started the cafe series in 1993 and served as its chairman and managing director (MD). On 29 July 2019, Siddharth went missing, and his body was found two days later on the banks of the Netravati River. A letter, written by Siddharth addressing the board of directors and employees, was made public in which he takes the responsibility of not creating a profitable business model.

Brief history

The first CCD outlet was established on 11 July 1996 on Brigade Road in Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka. It quickly spread to other cities in India, as of 2018, the company had 1,722 café outlets in over 200 cities in India. Cafe Coffee Day also has outlets outside India in Austria (Vienna), Czech Republic, Egypt and Nepal.
