The American Kratom Association (AKA), founded in 2014, is a non-profit organization in the U.S. whose self-described mission is "protecting the rights of all Americans to legally consume safe kratom to better manage their overall health and well-being". In 2016 and 2017, the organization drew public attention when it opposed efforts by the DEA to place kratom on the list of Schedule I drugs. As of 2021, it is chaired by former Republican congressman Matt Salmon.
