A Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) (Hindi: उप वन संरक्षक) or, equivalently a Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) (Hindi: वन मण्डल अधिकारी), is an officer belonging to the Indian Forest Service (IFS). He/She is assisted by the officers of the State Forest Service and other state forest and wildlife officials, and reports to the Conservator of Forests (CF) of the Forest Department. The post is first in hierarchy of INDIAN FOREST SERVICE which is an all India service. Several states of India also refer to DCF as DFO. The post of DCF can hold any office of equivalent grade in Functional or non Functional offices of the Forest department as posts in Forest corporation as Divisional Manager, or DCF Working plan, Wildlife warden in Wildlife sanctuaries or Deputy Director in a Training institute or AIGF in the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Climate change. This post has most direct involvement with the People in their day to day activity which on promotion goes on diminishing. DCF is an equivalent grade with SP and DC in a district being an All India Service, though the importance of this post as regard to public service is realized in places where the forest areas or forest land is huge. In areas which are far flung and which have tribal population dependent on forests.
