The Land Trust Alliance (LTA), originally formed in 1982 as the Land Trust Exchange, is a national conservation organization representing more than 1,000 land trusts across the United States.
The Land Trust Alliance is based in Washington, DC. As of December 2016, national, regional and local land trusts have conserved a total of 56 million acres (230×10^3 km2) of land in America.
Since 1985 the LTA has sponsored "Rally," a yearly conference of conservation professionals.
In 2012, the Alliance set up an insurance company to assist smaller regional land trusts with the legal defense of conservation easements.
In 2021 the LTA expressed support for the proposed Charitable Conservation Easement Program Integrity Act (S. 2256; H.R. 4164), which is intended to prevent improper tax deductions for land trusts and encourage legitimate charitable contributions.
