The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) is a U.S. Department of Energy asset that is dedicated to enabling critical scientific, research, and health initiatives of the department and its laboratory system by providing world class expertise in STEM workforce development, scientific and technical reviews, and the evaluation of radiation exposure and environmental contamination. ORISE maintains capabilities across the United States, but its primary offices are located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Recruit and prepare the next generation of our nation’s scientific workforce.Promote sound scientific and technical investment decisions through independent peer reviews.Facilitate and prepare for the medical management of radiation incidents in the United States and abroad.Evaluate health outcomes in individuals exposed to chemical and radiological hazards.Ensure public confidence in environmental cleanup through independent environmental assessments.Also located at ORISE is the Radiation Emergency Assistance Center/Training Site (REAC/TS)--a world-renowned, U.S. Department of Energy asset and a leader in emergency medical response to radiological/nuclear incidents. REAC/TS provides emergency response and subject matter expertise on the medical management of radiation incidents for the National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) Office of Counterterrorism and Counterproliferation.
ORISE performs this work for DOE and its national laboratory system and for non-DOE entities through the Strategic Partnership Projects program. ORISE is managed by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU).
