The full form of RDX is Research Department Explosive or Royal Demolition Explosive. Formally cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine, chemical formula is C3H6N6O6. Also called cyclonite, hexogen, or T4. The Research Department Explosive (RDX) is a powerful explosive, discovered by Georg Friedrich Henning of Germany, and patented in 1898. It is a nitroamine explosive widely used in military and industrial applications. It was developed as a more powerful explosive than TNT and was widely used in World War II. It can be started by friction, impact and temperature. The name RDX was coined by the British. Relatively safe and inexpensive to manufacture, RDX was produced on a large scale in the United States through a secret process developed in the United States and Canada. RDX is a hard white crystalline solid, insoluble in water and only slightly soluble in some other solvents.
